Our home is located in the Matthews area even though the mailing address is Charlotte. Matthews is a vibrant community and we have enjoyed shopping for local produce at the Farmers Market downtown, taking the kids to the seasonal festivals or the many athletic fields in the area for fall and spring team sports. Matthews has a great wine bar, excellent small restaurants, and a great public library. The location is ideal – a ten minute drive to South Park, Ballantyne, Uptown, and 485.
The community is a blend of young families and sweet retired couples. We spent many nights around a firepit with neighbors who became fast friends. The pool is a great place to meet new people and for the kids to connect through the summer. The builder left all the trees and built the lots with most of them intact, so it has a true mature look and feel. There is a terrific park and tennis court facility with an upgraded kids play area.
We love to eat at New Zealand Café – great sushi. There are several good Mexican restaurants nearby and you can’t forget about The Cheesecake Factory in South Park Mall. For a quick burger fix – Five Guys is a mile away.
There are 3 grocery stores within a mile of the house – Harris Teeter, Food Lion, and a Wal-mart Supercenter.
When we were looking for a home, we wanted privacy and a yard the kids and dog could play in. The backyard in this house is huge, fenced in, and was a great spot to host gatherings with an outdoor fire. The huge driveway easily accomodated our boat.
The Matthews area provides urban living with the ease of accessing all the greater Charlotte area has to offer within minutes, but has remained a quintessential small town – making Family Circle’s Top 10 Best Towns for Families in 2015
The Presbyterian Hospital nearby is a holistic facility that is fantastic and has taken care of our family from birth through middle school.
The greater Charlotte area has endless amenities, from the Whitewater Center to a terrific new minor league baseball stadium, plus the Panthers and Hornets to cheer on! College football pulls together all the guys for driveway viewings of the games while the girls sip a glass of wine on the patio.
Utility costs are very reasonable especially now with a new heat pump installed 2 years ago. The house is all electric, but a gas line is run to the outside of the house. Water / septic is provided by the City of Charlotte and averaged $30 a month.
